Section V: Preventative Measures

4. What are the consequences of cardholder misuse or fraud?

Misuse or fraud by the cardholder may have the following potential consequences for the cardholder:

  • Revocation of Purchase Charge Card privileges and cancellation of the cardholder's Purchase Charge Card
  • Notation in the cardholder's personnel file and/or performance evaluation
  • Counseling
  • Reprimand
  • Suspension of employment
  • Termination of employment
  • Criminal prosecution

Your agency/organization's policies and procedures relating to misuse or fraud involving the Purchase Charge Card will dictate how the cardholder is disciplined. In addition, changes to the OMB Circular A-123, Appendix B may also help with preventing misuse and fraud and provide information on disciplinary actions.
